At 08.00 the war stopped. Mixed with screams of grief and anxiety sirens filled the crisp morning air in Beit Hanoun. The war has ravaged the village. In large areas not many houses are still standing. The smell of death is everywhere. One of the victims is found buried under large chunks of concrete. His family and friends frenetically try to retrieve him – before the war starts again. It takes an hour to retrieve the body and he is gingerly carried to a waiting car when a man a block away starts screaming. Another body has been found. To this day, more than one thousand people have lost their lives.
