"GROUNDED: WINGED SURVIVORS OF FLORIDA'S GULF COAST"
The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary on Florida's Gulf Coast is the largest wild bird hospital and sanctuary in the country. Hundreds of birds call the sanctuary home and even though rehabilitation and release is always the goal many of the birds brought in never leave. This project documents many of the sanctuary's permanent residents while attempting to illustrate the damaging impact of man's encroachment into native avian habitats.
George, a white pelican, lost a wing to fishing line. Many of the shore birds that are brought into the sanctuary have injuries caused by careless disposal of fishing line.
